Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hug Mingarelli said that Kiev has to issue biometric passports to residents of the DPR and the LPR, as well as the Crimea.
According to Mingarelli, the European Union does not support the idea of Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko to issue citizens of these territories with passports of the old type only and thereby deprive them of the opportunity to travel without visas to Europe.
“This is completely inconsistent with our understanding,” Mingarelli added.
He noted that this position of the EU has already been brought to the attention of the Ukrainian authorities.
The decision to grant citizens of Ukraine the right to visa-free travel to the European Union was published on May 22 in the official bulletin of the EU, it will enter into force on June 11.
